Not sure what you would like to do in the future?

Tip: Start by thinking about what you may NOT like to do.

By eliminating what it is that you don't see yourself doing in the future, you can figure out what it is that you would like to do.

One of the best ways to discover potential interests (or a lack of potential interest) is to explore real-life opportunities. Volunteering and internships are some great way to really get into a specific field. A great site that can help you find a volunteer opportunity is:

Looking for alternative options to a 4-year college degree? Would prefer to join the workforce while working on your college degree? You may want to consider an apprenticeship or a career in a skilled trade. Vocational education provides the training necessary to become qualified professionals in a variety of trades. This type of learning, also known as career and technical education (CTE), blends academic and technical instruction to prepare graduates for direct entry into the workforce. All California Community Colleges offer various CTE Programs. You can also attend SVCTE after high school to obtain a certificate in specific program.

Did you know that you can apply for an apprenticeship through the apprenticeship union? You may be required to take an entrance exam. Apprentices not only learn occupational skills in the classroom, their learning is expanded to include hands-on, paid, on-the-job training! Students learn and practice all phases of the trade/occupation in real-world applications. To learn more, please visit: http://www.calapprenticeship.org/about.php
