SAT/ACT Information

COLLEGE ENTRANCE EXAMS

Many 4-year universities no longer require that students submit a college entrance exam score as part of the admission process. This could either be an ACT or SAT test.

UC- No longer uses ACT or SAT examinations in determining admission eligibility for all UC campuses. ACT or SAT test scores can be used as one of the measures to place students in the proper mathematics and written communication courses.

CSU - No longer uses ACT or SAT examinations in determining admission eligibility for all CSU campuses. ACT or SAT test scores can be used as one of the measures to place students in the proper mathematics and written communication courses.

Private colleges- do your research, depends on the college.

Community College- not needed for admissions, may use for course placement only.

SAT/ACT Preparation
SAT/ACT Test Preparation

Doing well on college entrance exams like SAT and ACT requires careful preparation. There are many ways to prepare, including self-studying through books, SAT/ACT Prep programs, and Khan Academy.

Preparing for the SAT Test

Khan Academy is considered one of the most effective tools to prepare for the SAT Test as it is the official prep program of the college board (which administers the SAT Test).

Information about SAT/ACT Tests
  • SAT or ACT tests may be taken as many times as needed

  • Fee waivers are available for the SAT, ACT and SAT Subject tests. Please see the counselor for eligibility criteria.

  • When students report SAT scores, all scores are visible on the score report. However, UC's will accept the highest SAT score received in a single sitting. CSU's will "superscore," or take the best of the EBRW, Math, and essay scores from different test sittings.

  • If a student took both SAT, ACT, and SAT subject tests and wants to submit only the SAT subject test results because the student did better on the ACT, even though colleges will view the SAT test scores along with the SAT Subject tests on the score report, they will take the ACT test over the SAT.
